INTERNATIONAL AND REGIONAL RESPONSES IN COMBATING MARITIME SECURITY THREATS IN SOMALIA
Abstract:The paper explores the international and regional
responses in combating maritime security threats in Somalia. It examines the
responses of the United Nations system, INTERPOL, contact groups on piracy off
the coast of Somalia, international naval-military responses. It additional
sheds light ion the responses of the African leaders and countries to this
threat. It pays particular attention to the African Union’s response to the
threat, and Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD). This paper will
as a good launching pad for future studies on this subject matter as it
explores in great detail, the different responses to the threat of piracy on
the sea and the successes of the numerous efforts so far.
